PORTLAND, Ore., Jul 22, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- FLIR Systems, Inc.
(NASDAQ:FLIR) announced today that Michael T. Smith has been elected to the
Board of Directors for a term expiring at the Company's 2003 Annual Meeting of
Shareholders. Smith is the retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
Hughes Electronics Corporation (NYSE:GMH), with 2001 revenues of $8.3 billion.
Previously he was Vice Chairman of Hughes Electronics and Chairman of Hughes
Aircraft Company. Smith joined Hughes in 1985, the year the company was formed,
as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, after spending nearly 20
years with General Motors in a variety of financial management positions. Smith
is a member of the Board of Directors of Alliant Techsystems, Inc. (NYSE:ATK),
Teledyne Technologies (NYSE:TDX) and Ingram Micro Corp. (NYSE:IM). Smith, a
former Army officer with a combat tour in Vietnam, received his B.A. in
Political Science from Providence College and an MBA from Babson College.
Smith joins FLIR's six-member Board of Directors, which includes Ronald L.
Turner, Chairman, President and CEO of Ceridian Corporation (NYSE:CEN); W. Allen
Reed, President and CEO of General Motors Investment Management Corporation;
